Tariq Trotter, born in 1971, is an American rapper and the lead MC of the Philadelphia-based hip hop group The Roots. Throughout his teenage years, Black Thought developed his skills as a rapper and began to perform locally. His passion and talent soon caught the attention of Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson who recruited Black Thought as the lead MC of The Roots.
